I have been one of the few to be selected to stand on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square’s for Anthony Gormley’s new art project ‘One and Other’.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the project, it takes place over 100 days and every hour a different person will be selected to stand on the plinth. The scene on the plinth will be broadcast 24 hours a day at http://www.oneandother.co.uk . It will also be covered on Sky Arts starting on 10 July. A full-length documentary and a book is also planned to sum up the event, from the first application to the final hour.
My place has been confirmed as Wednesday August 12th from 11pm to 12pm. Should be an interesting task getting a heavily pregnant artist onto the plinth, I’ll be 31 weeks pregnant then – so don’t expect any dancing about! I’ll spend my hour just being me – so I’ll be listening to The Smiths and sketching some ‘pregnancy plinth postcards’ to give away. I will also try to raise awareness of Bliss.
Bliss is the special care baby charity, which provides vital support and care to premature and sick babies across the UK. Founded 30 years ago, they offer guidance and information at a critical time in families’ lives. They also fund ground-breaking research and campaign for babies to receive the best possible level of care regardless of when and where they are born. http://www.bliss.org.uk/
