Prowess and the UK Female Ambassadors Programme

As I am actively committed to supporting women in business I am delighted to have become a member of Prowess.Prowess is a network of organisations and individuals who support the growth of women’s business ownership. This work encompasses raising awareness, sharing of best practice, advocacy and information. Prowess has over 250 members who support 100,000 women each year to start 10,000 new businesses which contribute an additional £1.5 billion to the economy. I am committed to increasing the start-up, growth and quality of women-owned businesses and the development of a women-friendly enterprise culture.
This is an exciting time as I joined the UK Female Ambassadors Programme in 2007. Inspirational people in the East Midlands were asked to step forward and join a UK network that will provide support to those budding female entrepreneurs who want to set up their own business. In February 2007, Margaret Hodge MP, Minister for Industry and the Regions, announced that she wanted to recruit a 1,000 strong network of inspirational women entrepreneurs to help and inspire more women to set up their own businesses. Each Regional Development Agency, including East Midlands Development Agency (emda), has been tasked with the recruitment of 100 ‘ambassadors’ in their region to reach the target of 1,000 network members.
